This and That and a SALE!!!

Well, I've got a few things going on at the moment so it has all been a bit hectic! I haven't been meaning to neglect you (by not having any freebies) and I promise that I will be making up for it very shortly!

We're still ploughing away at the Battle of the Creative Teams over at DSA. There is some really tough competition there and it is also very much a popularity contest, so my lack of friends voting is not helping our situation :) This week's challenge was to make up a team formula for our layouts with items numbered from 10 to 1. You then have to use the exact quantities of everything in your formula and nothing more. Our formula is as follows:
10 - Buttons
9 - Staples
8 - Stitches
7 - Strings
6 - Photos
5 - Unique Papers
4 - Journal Strips
3 - Flowers
2 - Fonts
1 - Word Art
I've been working on my layout for many, many hours (I'm a little embarrassed to admit how long) and I am still only about half-way through it. I'm not finding the concept difficult and I know what I want to do, but I have just made it more difficult for myself than I needed to. I'll hopefully post my layout tomorrow.

Apart from that, from tomorrow (August 1st) I will be taking part in the Designer Survivor competition! So, as long as I remain "on the island", I will have plenty of freebies for you. I assume we will be making a mini kit per week plus something extra like an Alpha, word art or CU items as part of the immunity challenge, so keep an eye out for 2 freebies per week that I am in the competition. If you are also taking part in the competition, leave me a message and we can discuss an alliance :)

Last but certainly not least, is a one day sale at Digital Scrap Ink that you might be interested in...

Enjoy!

Rainbow of Love - QP Blog Train (BOTCT Week #1)

It's the first week of the Battle of the Creative Teams over at DSA and I am part of the incredible "Brownie Girls" team (the Brownie Scraps store team)!!! Our first challenge was to create a white space layout using a coordinating colour scheme amongst the team and an optional theme. As we are the store team, we can use any kits in the Brownie Scraps store whereas the teams for specific designers can only use their designer's kits. We decided to go with a rainbow colour scheme where each of our 5 team members used a different colour (red, orange, green, blue & purple) as the main colour of their layout. To add to this, we also decided to make the focal point of our layouts reflect the arch of a rainbow with the first layout (red) focusing on the bottom left corner, the second (orange - mine) focusing on the centre of the left, etc right to the purple layout with the focus in the bottom right corner. We also decided to use a theme of highlighting a special part of our child's body and called the set 'Rainbow of Love'.

The great news for you is that you get to collect all of our gorgeous layouts as quick pages!!! All we ask in return is that you head on over to DSA and vote for The Brownie Girls!!! (and you may as well leave us some love in the gallery too :)).

Here is my layout:

And here is the QP:

TNBT Designer Competition - Results...

Well! Who would've thought it but somehow I managed to make it through the competition and actually won a place as a designer at Digital Scrap Ink!!!

The details are yet to be discussed but I will keep you posted :) Meanwhile, I will be getting stuck into adding heaps to the kits from the designer challenge (I've already added a really cute bubble alpha to the "A Little Bit Fishy" kit) and making a baby girl version of the "Just Plane Cute" kit, and working out some great opening specials and competitions! Yippee!!!

Thanks heaps for your support! Let me know if you have any suggestions on things to add to any of my current freebie kits (as they will all be getting an overhaul before being added to the stores) or other ways to improve them.

Cheers!

TNBT Final Week - CU Freebie!!!

As part of the final week of The Next Best Thing Designer Contest, we were asked to create at least one CU item to give away as a freebie and also use it in our kit for the challenge. Since most of my elements this week were very plane-specific, I thought that you would probably prefer the more generic elements as my CU freebie.

Contents:
1x Scallop-Edged Paper
1x Grosgrain Ribbon
1x Winding String

Download 'CU Items':
via The Next Best Thing contest at Digital Scrap Ink (free registration required):
* CU Items (1.4Mb)

The samples are not included in this download but are all part of the 'Just "Plane" Cute' kit that I created for this week's entry. For a preview of the kit and details of where to download it, check out my previous post.

Enjoy!

Just "Plane" Cute - S4H/S4O Kit Freebie!!!

Well, I made it through to the final round of The Next Best Thing designer contest which means I have another free kit for you!

For this week's challenge, we were allowed to use any colours and theme with the twist being that we had to also create at least one CU item to give away as a freebie. For my CU freebie, check out the next post.

This week, one of my sisters informed me that her friend was due to have her baby in the next week or so. I had promised to make the birth announcements a while ago and was shocked at how quickly the time had passed (and that I hadn't even thought about the kit I would use). So, this final challenge was the perfect opportunity to get stuck into this kit! The daddy-to-be is an aircraft mechanic so the cute little planes will be perfect for the birth announcement. They would also be great for scrapping babies and kids layouts as well as little boy invitations and cards. I think it's pretty cute but it seems to be lacking something to make it "great". Anyway, it's a freebie so help yourself and enjoy!

Drop shadows are for preview only.

Download 'Just Plane Cute':
via The Next Best Thing contest at Digital Scrap Ink (free registration required):
* Part 1 of 2 (62Mb)
* Part 2 of 2 (64Mb)

In addition to creating the kit, we also had to create at least one CU item and use it in the kit. For a preview of the Freebie CU Items (and the link of where to download them), check out my next post :)

I hope you enjoy using this kit as much as I enjoyed creating it. Feel free to leave a comment on the kit (in the gallery at Digital Scrap Ink) and I'll let you know on July 4th how I went in the contest! Unfortunately, I don't think this week's kit is bright and noticeable enough to ultimately "win" the contest, but we'll have to wait and see :) Thanks to everyone who has commented on the previous kits and encouraged me along the way!

Enjoy!

Blog Train - All About Me

Well, it's a new month and time for the next "Half-Baked Girls" blog train! The theme for this blog train is "All About Me" where you'll find all sorts of useful bits and pieces for scrapping about yourself. Because there are sooo many subcategories for this theme, we have decided to continue this theme over the next few months and keep the same colour scheme (with maybe adding a colour each month). I was unable to get my contribution finished in time (sorry about that) so have decided to put it in the next month's blog train. Just so you know what you are missing, and so you will come back next month :), the mini theme that I am working on is "15 minutes of fame" and I am rather happy with how it is turning out so far. I just ran out of time to complete it with the TNBT designer challenge and CT duties (oh, and real life) taking up all my time. BTW, I got through to the final round of TNBT Designer Challenge so keep an eye out in the next few days for my latest submission.

Anyway, if you came here from one of the other blogs on the train, sorry about that but I don't have a contribution this month. Here are the blogs that are taking part this month:
