Design Factor Wk 6 - Free Mini Kit!

I am back once again with another freebie kit for you! This freebie is the kit I created as the final challenge (Challenge #6) of the Design Factor design challenge over at Digi Scrap Connect.

This week our task was to basically combine the lessons learned from each of the previous challenges to create our kit. We had to create two papers with doodles on them that we had drawn ourselves, include a tag, frame, bow, fastener & 3 layered elements, as well as at least one of the "Design Factor" colors (an off white sort of color or an almost charcoal colour). Apart from that, we had to include a food theme to the kit and ensure that at least 25% of the kit was made up of food-related items. I initially started on a Strawberry kit (because my daughter LOVES strawberries!) but soon realized that it was going to look a LOT like my ladybug kit from a few weeks ago :) So, I moved on to a Watermelon kit instead.

Design Factor Wk 5 - Free Element Pack!

I am back once again with another freebie for you! As with the past 4 freebies, this freebie was created for the Design Factor design challenge over at Digi Scrap Connect. This week's freebie is a little different to the past 4 weeks though, as it is an Element Pack rather than a mini kit.

It's hard to believe that we are already up to Challenge #5 and that next week will be the final challenge! I really didn't expect to continue past about challenge 2 or 3 since things have been rather hectic around here, but it has been so much fun and so I'm glad that I have continued with it! The prizes are pretty neat too :)

This week our task was to create an element pack that focused on the skills of recoloring using one of three palettes that are difficult to recolor well. Although this in itself would be a decent challenge, the hardest part for me was that we were also not allowed to use anything that we created ourselves (no doodles, shapes, textures, extracted items etc) and we were also not allowed to add any styling or use any actions on the elements! Ugh! We also had to ensure that at least half of our Element pack was based on CU items by a particular store so all in all it was a rather tricky challenge so I am pleased with the end result (and glad it is over lol).

Design Factor Wk 4 - Free Mini Kit!

I am back once again with another freebie kit for you! As with the last 3 kits, this is the kit I created for Challenge #4 of the Design Factor design challenge over at Digi Scrap Connect.

This week our task was to create some sort of shape (or object) that had to be included in all of our patterned papers and all of our elements, as well as be included in an a-z alpha. We were allowed to use up to 4 CU items but I managed to go with just 3 :) This week I created a ladybug as my shape and I really enjoyed putting together this mini. I am soooo pleased with my color selection and really love the end result! I will DEFINITELY be extending this into a full sized kit.

Design Factor Wk 3 - Free Mini Kit!

I am back once again with another freebie kit for you! As with the last 2 kits, this is the kit I created for Challenge #3 of the Design Factor design challenge over at Digi Scrap Connect.

This week our task was to work with a neutral monochromatic color scheme for the papers then add a touch of one or two bright colors to the elements. We were allowed to use up to 5 CU items in the kit. This week I tried to go with a non-themed kit because I very rarely make kits like that so I kinda struggled because of my own restriction rather than the challenge itself :) All the same, I'm rather pleased with the end result and I hope you enjoy it too!

Design Factor Wk 2 - Free Mini Kit!

I am back again to give you another freebie kit as the kit I created for Challenge #2 of the Design Factor design challenge over at Digi Scrap Connect.

This week our task was to focus on our patterned papers where we had to hand-draw (or machine-draw) things to create at least 6 patterned papers. Once again, we weren't allowed to use any CU products, with the exception of textures for the papers or elements and also CU fonts were okay for elements only. After spending WAY too long finalizing my theme and colour scheme (as well as my objects), I finally came up with this sweet little kit.

Design Factor Wk 1 - Free Mini Kit!

My poor little blog is looking a little neglected in his Christmas gear... in a few days time I could pretend it was on purpose for a "Christmas in July" special lol.

Anyway, ignoring the state of my blog, I have a fun mini kit freebie for you today! I am taking part in the Design Factor design challenge over at Digi Scrap Connect along with about 90 other designers! Each week, all participants will be creating a mini kit based on the challenge theme/scheme/details and each week you can grab them all for free! They will only be available for free for a limited time so be sure to grab them whilst you can!

This week was the first week and our task was to create a mini based on a Summer theme without using any Commercial Use products (with some minor exceptions) and focus on some layered elements. I decided to go with a Popsicle theme. I love the bright colors and I had some ideas for fun elements so that's what I went with :) Here is what I came up with. I didn't use any CU products that I hadn't created myself except for a distressed edge action by Atomic Cupcake to give the torn out look to the edges of the paper elements.

Once I started, I fell in love with the theme and color scheme so I will be releasing a co-ordinating kit in the near future, so if you like the look of this mini, keep an eye out for my new kit :)

Well... the time has come to take off my apron and baker's hat, and say farewell to designing at Brownie Scraps. I’ve recently been given an opportunity to get back into a little bit of IT work through the creation of a website followed by taking on the site admin role (similar to Eileen’s role at Brownie Scraps). I was hoping that I could do this whilst still working and playing at Brownie Scraps, but unfortunately there are just not enough hours in the day for me to do a decent job of both (as well as take care of my 'real life' too). So I have made a very tough decision and decided to leave Brownie Scraps.

My last day with Brownie Scraps will be Feb 28 and to thank you all for being such wonderful customers and friends, I am having a HUGE farewell sale! All products in my store are on sale for 50-70% off from now until my store closes on Feb 28.

Winterpalooza Starts Today

Wow! February already?!?!?! My beautiful "baby girl" turns 3 on Friday and starts Kindergarten next week! Where did the time go???? Well, may as well enjoy the moment while it lasts... so... sounds like the perfect time to head over to Brownie Scraps and check out what is going on for the Winterpalooza event!

The general gist of Winterpalooza is that you have the opportunity to take part in a variety of fun little events (including scrapping an non-scrapping events) and as you complete each event, you will receive a "stamp". The RAK held yesterday was for a chance to win my Toadally Cute kit!

Before I announce the winner, I have a little story :) One of the RAK email entries mentioned that they were quite afraid of frogs and I have a confession to make - I am rather terrified of them myself! :) I was visiting relatives in Queensland a few months ago (where there are quite a lot of cane toads) and I was hosting a speed scrap at something like 2am (due to timezone differences). The study/home office I was using was in a separate building a few meters from the house and when I had finished and went to go back into the house, there was a cane toad sitting on the ground between me and the house (actually, no, it was even off to the side so not actually in my pathway at all) and I was frozen solid and couldn't force myself to walk (or run) past it! I was convinced that it was going to jump on me or get stuck in my clothes or do SOMETHING! I spent about 10 minutes trying to work up the courage to just run past it and also racking my brain for any other solution of how to get inside or get someone to come outside when everyone was fast asleep. Meanwhile, the cane toad hadn't moved AT ALL and yet I was still terrified of it! LOL! Then, to my absolute delight, their teenage son came home from a party and came out the back to secretly have a cigarette before bed and almost died when he saw me standing there. I sheepishly admitted that I was scared of the toad and he looked at me as though I was more than a little crazy and went over and moved the toad several meters away (ok, so he kicked it) and neither of us spoke of it again :) BUT, I do rather like cute digital toads like the ones I made for the Toadally Cute kit - I'm just not so fond of the real ones :) Now, onto the winner of these adorable frogs and toads :)

Immunity Challenge and LOTS of Freebies!!!

I am taking part in the Designer Survivor competition again this year at Brownie Scraps. What this means for you is that you have the chance to pick up a HEAP of awesome freebies throughout the competition!! Let's start with a bunch of free templates... To ensure that people were serious about taking part in the competition, the first challenge was to create a template. You can view all of the entries HERE and most of the freebie links should still be available.

So we caught the ship, were thrown into teams and given out first challenge (to create a kit based on a selection of colors and randomly selected items per team member) which is due on Thursday. We were also given our first Reward/Immunity Challenge which was to create the logo to be used for the competition! All logos have now been submitted and it is open to a public vote to determine whose logo will be used, and the team that created the winning logo will each receive a pack of CU products as well as immunity from elimination this week (in addition to getting to see their logo on everyone's previews for the rest of the competition).

I am part of the BROWN team and we created this adorable logo, based on the logo from the "Survivor" TV show but with a Digital Scrapbooking twist, along with the color scheme that is being used on the Designer Survivor blog.

Since this is open to a public vote, we need your help :)

I hope you are having fun with all of the events and shopping for NSD! If only there were more hours in the day :)

I am very excited to present you with the Bytes for May! I figured that you would already be overwhelmed with Mother's Day kits, so I decided to create a funky little Alphabet kit instead. My 2 year old daughter is obsessed with the alphabet so I got her to approve each of the letters and objects as I created them, and I am happy to say that they were all acceptable :) Ok, I admit that she is still convinced that the "Jar" is a "Teapot" - I guess I need to teach her the "I'm a little teapot" song so I can point out that my jar has neither a handle nor a spout! Merry and Bright - Brag Book and Quick Page Freebies!!!

I've had a QP waiting to be posted for over a fortnight now and I just keep forgetting to post it! Tonight I also created a Christmas Card/Brag Book page (as part of the 'Festival of Lights' activities over at Brownie Scraps) so I decided that I really should post it before going to bed or else you may never see it :)

So, here they are... They have both been made using my 'Merry & Bright' kit which can be found here. Click on the preview images to download each page.

Toadally Cute... and a Freebie!!!

In all of the excitement, I forgot to let you know about my latest (and DEFINITELY favourite!) kit called 'Toadally Cute'.

I love the colours, I love the frogs and I especially LOVE what my incredibly talented CT has done with it!

This awesome layout was created by Michelle:

Sara (who just so happens to be obsessed with frogs), has even gone 'Toadally' crazy! As soon as she got the kit, she created a new siggy and avatar for herself and then proceeded to make me a new fan blinkie, CT blinkie and BANNER!!! How cute are they???

Moving In Sale!!!

Well, it is now official so I am soooo excited to inform you that I am the newest Brownie Baker at Brownie Scraps!!! This is actually a dream come true for me because I LOVE the site and practically live there so to have been chosen as an exclusive Designer there is such a great honour! Ok, I admit it... I cried when they informed me that they wanted ME to join their "family". :)

Unfortunately, I was out of action for part of my "break" (due to some back problems) so I am running a little behind schedule on filling my store. Little Spooks - Textured Papers Freebie!!!

As mentioned last week, I am currently taking part in the Fairytale Academy Designers course (over at Brownie Scraps) which is a 6 week course that focuses each week on a different area of creating and marketing a scrapbook kit. Although the course is designed to focus on a single kit throughout the duration of the course, I had planned to create my official kit (to put in my store) as well as a freebie kit that I would give away at the end of each week. This week we focused on creating solid/textured papers with minimal (or no) patterns.

Well, I managed to get the papers done for the freebie kit but have barely started on my official kit (oops) and the assignment is "due" tomorrow. Oh well, at least I keep you all happy :)

I have an absolutely GORGEOUS colour scheme for my store kit but I still have no idea of the theme which is making it difficult to decide how much texture and what style to make my papers... so it was easier to just work on the freebie kit instead :) For the freebie kit, I decided to put together a cute Halloween kit and thought it might be useful for it to co-ordinate with the 3 Halloween-inspired alphas that I gave away over the last few weeks. Jack-O-Lantern Alpha - Freebie!!!

I hope you are not already sick of Halloween... because I have one last Halloween-inspired alpha for you.

It is currently school holidays here and I have had my next older sister and a couple of her kids staying this week. It's been wonderful but has meant that I have spent most of my time hanging out with them (rather than designing stuff for you) so I decided to finish off the Jack-O-Lantern alpha that I have mentioned a few times in the past fortnight. I'm rather happy with the result and hope you like it too. I included a little Jack-O-Lantern as well as a little bonus to the alpha.

Spooky Pumpkin Alpha - Freebie!!!

For this week's freebie, I put together another Halloween-inspired alpha. I had originally planned to finish off the Jack-o-lantern alpha that I started last week (ie. add the lowercase characters and symbols) and made this alpha as the "matching" alpha... but decided that it didn't look very nice with the Jack-O-Lantern alpha so created the full alpha on its own. So... I have a complete Spooky Pumpkin Alpha for you on this Sensational Saturday!

Wax Seal Alpha - Freebie!!!

Now that HDDS has closed, I have decided to "go exclusive" at Digital Scrap Ink (ok, so I haven't bothered to find another store... and I don't create enough kits at the moment anyway). As part of this, I have taken over the "Sensational Saturdays" freebie giveaway which means I will have a freebie for you over on the DSI blog at least every Saturday.

This week, I created a wax seal alpha that goes quite nicely with my wedding invitation kit, 'One Perfect Day'. Click on the preview to head over to DSI and download it.

If you'd prefer for it to be a dark gray/black wax (and you use PhotoShop) I can recommend the following settings:
* layer options - add a color overlay with the setting as "Color", Black and 100% Opacity.
* duplicate the layer twice (so you end up with 3 layers)
* middle layer - Blend Mode of "Multiply" with 100% Opacity
* top layer - Blend Mode of "Multiply" with 50% Opacity (adjust the Opacity to get the exact shade you are after)

Haven Designz Store is Closing - 50% off Sitewide Sale

After much deliberation, the owner of Haven Designz DigiScraps, Lissa, has decided to close the store. Although terribly sad and a little unexpected, I completely understand her reasons for doing so. She has been completely dedicated to the store and working almost 24 hours a day since it opened (as well as forking over thousands of dollars to get it going), and the minuscule sales are really not worth all of the time, effort, cost and loss of family time that she puts into the store. I wish her all the best for the future and am certain that another store would LOVE to sell her designs.

The doors will close in one week (sorry, not sure of exact day) and until that time, all products in the entire site are on sale for 50% off (excluding gift certificates and custom services). So head on over to Haven Designz DigiScraps and pick up a bargain before the store closes for good.

Designer Survivor - Update

Unfortunately, I was eliminated this week. Waaaaaa!!!! Towards the end of the week when I had barely started my kit and was unsure about whether I could finish it in time, I was questioning whether I should just drop out of the comp or work like crazy to get it finished in time. I had a funny feeling I would be eliminated but thought that I would hate to forfeit when I had a chance of staying in the game. So, I worked day and night for 2 days straight (totally neglecting my daughter, sleep and my husband's birthday) and I think the kit came out pretty nicely. In hindsight, though, I probably should have made it a bit crappier so that I wasn't seen as a "threat" :)

Oh well... the good news is that my little sister is finally having her baby. Her waters broke late last night and she was admitted to hospital in the wee hours of the morning. A few hours ago she was about 3cm dilated with solid contractions at about 5 mins apart, so hopefully won't be too many hours left. It is amazing how my (repressed) memories of my daughter's birth came flooding back when I heard about her labour. My sister is also having "back labour" which is what I had and ABSOLUTELY hated! Of course, I have no idea what "front labour" feels like, but constant intense back pain with increased intensity with each contraction along with zapping down both arms and legs was not so pleasant... As much as I would love another baby, I definitely don't envy her right now.

It's actually a good thing I was eliminated this week because I still haven't created the kit for my sister's birth announcement (nor the actual announcement) and since he is arriving as I type, I probably should get on to that! :)
